Just what is Italian Beef?

If you're not a native Chicagoan this may be something of a mystery.  Let me 'splain to you.a

Italian Beef was invented in Chicago around 1936 during the heart of the Great Depression as a way to improve the tenderness and taste of cheaper cuts of beef.  The exact inventor and resataurant are, of course, a matter of controversy.  In any event, Italian Beef is a true Chicago creation.  Lean cuts of beef, marinated in its own juice and seasoned with garlic, oregano and other proprietary Italian spices Italian Beef today is a tasty treat.

Generally enjoyed with steamed bell peppers or a spicy giardiniere, Italian beef is tasty and low in calories.  Get you some.

A big thank you to the Republican Women of Sumner County who chose Campione's as the place to meet every month.  It's been great meeting everyone and it sure hasn't been dull!

YO, It's time for vacation!

Campione's Taste of Chicago will be closed July 4 through July 23, 2012.  Deb and I are going on VACATION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How 'bout it?

Seriously, we really need a break and we will always close up around this time to do annual clean up, spruce up, repair and generally put the restaurant back together after the had use of the last 12 months.   This year we have to redo the floor.  OUCH!

Eat Healthy at Campione's Taste of Chicago

After hosting a dinner for a Biggest Loser contestant one our "family" got curious about the calorie count of some of our samiches. The result? Move over subway! Campione's Italian Beef samich has only 460 calories and our Chicago Hot Dog only 280! Our fries are better too with no transfats and no saturated fats.

Bottom line, you can enjoy Campione's guilt free! Who knew?

Hot cars, good music and food like only Chicago can provide on a beautiful Spring evening. It doesn't get any better so make plans to be there or be square.

Update

Abject apologies to any readers or followers. I last posted in March and folks are wondering if we're still here. Yes we are and I am a schmuck for not keeping this blog current. I have an excuse (actually more than one) but no one cares, not even me. In any event, I have resolved to do better in 2011.

WE ARE STILL HERE! Opening in September 2008 as the economy tanked and Obamanomics kicked in we should not be here! 90 percent of restaurants fail in the first 12 months in an average economy. We are still here because of our diners, friends and family. Thank you all very, very much as we sneak up on 2 1/2 years of operations.

We are working on the spring Chicago Cruise In schedule and should post it within a couple of weeks. NO RAIN OUTS THIS YEAR, DO YOU HEAR ME?

We are also planning on getting out of the 'rant and into warm season festivals. We even have an app in to the Wilson County Fair. Here's hoping.

We've added Mama Debbie's Chicken Salad croissants to the menu and are offering all our sausages, dogs, pasta and condiments in bulk. Get your hot giardinera by the gallon for only $25.00!

Da Bears have a shot at da Super Bowl. Get your pounds of beef ready now for playoff time and Da Bears spanking of their puny opponents. Nothing goes with football like a beef samich. AAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
